Dr. Anthony Spitz knows that deciding to have surgery can be a major step. Will it hurt? What will the procedure entail? How long will recovery take?
These – and all other questions you may have – will be thoroughly addressed when you come to our office looking to find relief from your painful symptoms through surgery.
The good news is that we always strive to provide you and your family with the best treatment options available. In fact, Dr. Spitz is one of only two podiatrists in Illinois who is trained to perform HyProCure surgery. But he didn’t stop there!
To continue offering the best surgical options, we are proud to introduce to you the TenJet System – another minimally invasive procedure that can get you back on your feet without the hassle of undergoing more traditional, invasive surgeries.
Traditional vs. Minimally Invasive Surgery
Have you been experiencing heel pain? Do your heels hurt every morning after you get out of bed, or after you have been sitting for a while?
Often plantar fasciitis is to blame (although Achilles tendinitis may also be the culprit)!
These conditions are usually caused by repetitive stress that results in overuse of the tendon. And although most tendon injuries do heal on their own with rest, ice, and occasionally physical therapy, if you’ve been suffering from painful symptoms for more than 3 months, your condition is considered chronic. And when this happens, the damaged tissue needs to be removed to completely eliminate the pain.
Traditional surgery is an option. These types of procedures involve open dissection of the injured tendon, a detachment of the tendon from the heel bone, removal of the injured tendon (and sometimes bone spurs), then reattachment of the tendon using bone anchor sutures. To ensure optimal recovery, a cast must be worn, no weight bearing is required for about 6 weeks, and physical therapy is often recommended.
Sounds like a lot, huh?
On the other hand, the TenJet System is a breakthrough technology that effectively treats chronic tendon pain by removing damaged tissue without the need for surgery – no cutting or detaching tendons!
Indeed, this procedure is a game changer for most patients that would otherwise be sidelined for several months. And if you have been suffering from plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendon pain, you may be a great candidate for a TenJet procedure.
TenJet System for Chronic Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinitis
Now, you may be wondering what exactly the TenJet System is – and we’re glad you asked!
The TenJet System is a minimally invasive procedure that targets and treats the source of chronic tendon pain. Using ultrasound as guidance and a local anesthesia for patient comfort, this treatment delivers a high-pressure stream of saline that can differentiate between healthy and damaged tissue. The stream of saline creates a suction effect, which cuts and removes injured tissue instantaneously, while leaving the healthy parts of the tendon unharmed.
Through the water jet technology of the TenJet system, any scar formation can be very easily broken down and removed via negative pressure. And by only breaking down the scarred and damaged tissue, TenJet allows for less trauma and improved healing capability of the region.
The overall benefits of the TenJet System include:
- Incisions being minimal
- Only a local anesthetic being required
- Faster recovery periods
- Walking being allowed
What to Expect from the TenJet Procedure
This minimally invasive procedure is performed in an outpatient setting under a local anesthetic. Tenjet takes approximately 15 minutes and the small incision eliminates the need for any stitches. Once the procedure is done and the anesthesia wears off, you can walk right out the door!
Some patients may feel mild discomfort at the beginning of the procedure when the local anesthetic is being administered. Following treatment, you may also experience some soreness in the treated area. This can easily be managed with over-the-counter medications.
Now, that sounds a lot easier, right?
So, if you have been dealing with painful heels for a while now, and nothing you do seems to be working, it may be time to consider other options. The TenJet system can get you back on your feet and living a lifestyle without pain!
